Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, R-Florida, singled out Dr. Anthony Fauci and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for funding coronavirus gain-of-function research in China and for practicing “cruel experiments” on puppies.

This week it was revealed that the NIH funded organizations that injected and force-fed dogs with an experimental drug for several weeks, then killed and dissected them.

During a press conference in Sarasota County, Florida, DeSantis said that what Fauci and the NIH are doing with puppies is “flat out disgusting, it’s despicable, and needs to stop,” and that he finds it unbelievable that such practices are funded with Americans’ tax dollars.

“We know NIH gave money to fund gain-of-function research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology. So, what they’re doing is they’re taking US tax dollars in China and they’re trying to create superviruses that will be more dangerous for humans,” DeSantis said.

Holding Fauci to account

The Republican said the gain-of-function research is “unethical” and that authorities should demand that it stop.

“I really think Fauci needs to be held accountable,” DeSantis added. “These people, these bureaucrats, they just don’t get to run wild and do whatever the hell they want to with our tax dollars.”

DeSantis referred to the scientists behind such research as “mad scientists” and insisted that they cannot be allowed to operate with impunity.
