Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed an anti-riot law on Monday to prevent looting and crime during violent protests.

“All right, it’s done. It was promised and it was delivered,” the Republican said today at a press conference where he signed the law, which last Thursday had completed its passage in the Legislature after being approved in the state Senate.

With 23 votes in favor and 17 against, the Senate, with a Republican majority, approved this initiative last week, defined as a “fight against violence, disorder and looting and law enforcement protection law.”

“It’s the strongest anti-riot and pro-law enforcement legislation in the country, there’s nothing else like it,” DeSantis said in Winter Haven, central Florida.

The rule, introduced by the governor to great fanfare in September of last year, expands law enforcement’s powers to make arrests at demonstrations and shields funding for police.

At today’s press conference, the governor was joined by Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd, among others, who showed pictures of tourists at Disney, among other state attractions.

“This is the Florida we love and why so many people come here,” he said to justify the need for the law, for which he congratulated the governor.
