“In Florida, we will not let them lock you down. We will not let them take your job. We will not let them harm your businesses”

The governor maintained that he will not close schools either. “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.”

DeSantis has been among the governors who have opposed shutting down the economy because of the pandemic. In February, the Republican stated that his strategy worked and proved that the right thing to do was to keep the economy open.

“For those of you who are not from Florida, welcome to our oasis of freedom!” said DeSantis at CPAC’s annual conference.

The governor’s remarks come as several countries are taking action over the emergence of a new variant of COVID, known as Omicron, which was first detected in Botswana earlier this month. It was recently identified in South Africa and reported to the World Health Organization (WHO) on November 24.

President Joe Biden announced that the Federal Government will impose restrictions on air travel from South Africa and seven other countries (Botswana, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Lesotho, Eswaitini, Mozambique and Malawi).
