Fauci’s retirement
DeSantis’s remarks come after the news that the White House’s chief epidemiologist will receive at least $350,000 a year after leaving office. The information was given Tuesday by Reason, which detailed that the doctor is the highest paid official in the Government.
“He is currently the highest-paid federal official, making more money than the president, military generals, and even Cabinet officials. His salary in 2020 was $434,000, though he likely made more in 2021 and 2022” Reason noted.
Fauci announced his retirement and said that he was making the decision because of other projects he has. “It has been the honor of a lifetime to have led NIAID, an extraordinary institution, for so many years and through so many scientific and public health challenges. I am very proud of our many accomplishments. I have worked with -and learned from- countless talented and dedicated people in my own laboratory, at NIAID, at NIH, and beyond. To them I express my enduring respect and gratitude”, Fauci wrote in a statement posted on the institute’s official website.
