DeSantis to the White House in 2024?

Ron DeSantis - El American

Governor DeSantis trends every time he speaks: he marks a position, he gives arguments and, with a coherence atypical of today’s governors, he answers questions from the press, the well-intentioned, and the ill-intentioned ones as well; like that of a CNN journalist who began to ask him questions about coronavirus vaccines and the governor reprimanded him for not having researched well what he was saying. In the end, he gave her a lesson of freedom and trust in the private sector:

“The state is not dictating to hospitals…that would be a total disaster. These people are much more competent to provide health services than the government will ever be,” said the governor.

With DeSantis at the helm, Florida has become one of the states that has received the most internal migration in the last year, people fleeing by the thousands from the tax hell and disaster of the Democratic Administrations in New York and California to take refuge in the south of the country, where the Latino community is increasingly taking a leading role.

The difference between the streets of Miami and New York are abysmal, and it’s not just about the weather: the business environment, public services, security, are two completely opposite poles, I personally had the opportunity to spend December 31st in New York, and sometimes I didn’t know if I was in the state of Cuomo or in the streets of Gotham City waiting at the exit of the subway for some killer clown.

DeSantis gave a masterful speech some days ago, not because he dictated verbatim the Independence Declaration or gave a class in political philosophy, but because he used something that most politicians have lost in recent years: common sense. De Santis said “Every Floridian has the right to earn a living. Florida is open, and we have your back.”

And just like that, without restricting freedoms, without dictating draconian measures to further punish employers and employees who continue to suffer money losses due to the pandemic, and most importantly, without posing as some sort of superman who will be the lord and master of the lives of the people of his state, DeSantis asks people to take care of themselves, but in turn allows them to work, bring home food, and be able to pay their bills. That’s it, common sense, nothing else.

Even though Florida is one of the few states that has kept its businesses open, its numbers in handling the pandemic are far better than those of Cuomo in New York, who restricted the freedoms of its citizens, prevented religious celebrations, cancelled holidays, and banned hundreds of thousands from working. The governor of New York is so pathetic that now the state attorney general is investigating him for having concealed approximately 50% of the number of deaths in nursing homes, and yet he received an EMMY for “handling the pandemic.” For those of you who don’t follow American politics very closely, the EMMY thing isn’t a joke, it actually happened.

I’m sure you’re wondering “wasn’t this article about DeSantis?” Why is Cuomo discussed so much? The reason is that even though the sun always shines in one state and Americans come from all over the country, the media tries to discredit the governor of Florida; and while in New York, the once capital of the world, the most coveted city on the planet, people flee en masse, their governor is given medals and the media champions him as an example to follow. That’s why we make the odious comparison, because there are many eyes left to be opened.

DeSantis has become the ultimate enemy of CNN, the new supervillain they squeeze to attract their audience, without Trump they are already starting to outline who to attack day by day, and after the good numbers left by the Florida Governor’s Administration they seem focused on trying to destroy his reputation.

However, DeSantis is doing things right, he has pushed for a law to bring to justice those who take advantage of protests to vandalize his state, in so doing protecting Floridians and their businesses, and he is also battling against totalitarian Big Tech. He recently had a run-in with journalists again where he accused them of protecting censorship in the Hunter Biden case: “Are you trying to tell me that if there was hacked information that could damage me, you wouldn’t print it? Give me a break! You can whiz on my leg, but don’t tell me it’s raining.”

After the different meetings, statements and the example that Ron DeSantis is setting with his administration in Florida, already many users on Twitter are starting to write “DeSantis 2024” in the responses to the videos posted about him. However, recently the Florida governor said that only 2022 was on his mind, alluding to his re-election as governor.

Political strategy? Respect for Trump? It remains to be seen, what is certain is that surely more than one would like the idea of “DeSantis 2024,” if it happens we will have to see who his running mate would be, but that is another story.
