Former President Donald Trump said he is seriously considering running in the 2024 elections. On Fox News, Trump argued that his commitment is to help people and that doing so as president is what he needs.

He recalled his success as a businessman and explained that he decided to become president to help Americans. He also argued that he helped citizens by lowering taxes and generating jobs during his administration.

“That’s why I did it. Look, this has been very traumatic. I had a great life, great company, great business, no problems. But you know what, I love doing it because I help people.”

He also referred to the pre-COVID economy in the United States. He asserted that the country had the best economy in its history. “We had the greatest economy. We had the most jobs. We had the best: we reached 160 million people.”

Likewise, he highlighted that the elections in 2022 are an opportunity to achieve his political goals. He pointed out that he is accompanying and supporting different senators for their election.

“I think we have a very good chance. I’m working with everyone, including Kevin McCarthy, to get the house back. I think we have a very good chance of doing that,” he said.

Other Republican contenders

Already several members of the Republican Party, such as Nikki Haley, have said they would support the former president in his presidential race. The former U.S. ambassador to the U.N. explained that she would not run if Trump decides to do so.

“I would not run if President Trump runs, and I would talk to him about it. That’s something we’ll have a conversation about at some point,” Haley said in a meeting with The Associated Press.

However, Haley is not the only Republican who has been speculated to be a possible candidate for the 2024 election. Former Vice-President Mike Pence signed a contract to write two books that would discuss his life and politics. And, according to Axios, the deal was reportedly part of a strategy to promote his profile ahead of a possible presidential run. Ron DeSantis, the governor of Florida, is another possible candidate for the Republican ticket in 2024.
