In the last few weeks, the temperature rose in the state of Pennsylvania, the reason? In the Senate race, it turns out that Mehmet Oz’s campaign is eager to set up a debate with John Fetterman, while the Democrat prefers to let the clock tick until the November election.

The current lieutenant governor of Pennsylvania suffered a cerebrovascular stroke (CVA) last May and rejoined the campaign in mid-August. Unfortunately, this left him with some temporary speech side effects, so his advisors are trying to delay a debate as long as possible.

Fetterman himself said in this regard: “We’re absolutely going to debate Dr. Oz, and that was really always our intent to do that. It was simply only ever been about addressing some of the lingering issues of the stroke, the auditory processing, and we’re going to be able to work that out,” the candidate recently said.

However, the candidate did not specify when or where he will debate. He only indicated that it will be “sometime in the middle to end of October” on a “major television station.”

Oz’s campaign against John Fetterman for the debates

Of course the Oz campaign did not let these statements slide. “Big news!, John Fetterman has agreed to debate in a secret debate. We don’t know where. We don’t know when. We don’t know how. It’s a big secret!” retorted Brittany Yanick, Communications Director for Dr. Oz for Senate.

“John Fetterman’s campaign is embarrassing themselves, let’s be clear —Dr. Oz’s campaign won’t agree to a secret debate. It has to be real, one with real journalists asking real questions. Sorry John, imaginary debates don’t count!” she added.

As for Mehmet Oz, he was not silent and addressed the situation on his Twitter account. “John Fetterman’s misinformation campaign is busy tonight, here’s the reality: I have committed to 6 debates in September and October. Fetterman has committed to 0. Absentee ballots can go out on September 19th. We need to be debating early and often,” the Republican tweeted.

To add fuel to the fire, he even posted an old Fetterman tweet about the importance of debates as a cover photo.

The Pennsylvania Senate race is one of the most closely watched by Democrats, as they see it as their best chance to steal a seat from the Republicans. Currently, the Real Clear Politics polling average shows a 6.5% advantage in favor of the current lieutenant governor of Pennsylvania.
