The President of Ecuador, Lenín Moreno, will travel to the United States to participate in the Forum for the Defense of Democracy, to be held next Wednesday in the city of Miami.
Moreno will travel to the United States to take part in the event, confirmed to EFE a source from the General Secretariat of Communication of the Presidency.
The meeting is organized by the Inter-American Institute for Democracy Foundation, which invited Moreno as keynote speaker of the so-called Presidents’ Forum.
Moreno will participate in the panel called Concrete Actions for the Defense of Democracy, where he will share the panel with his colleagues from Paraguay, Mario Abdo Benítez; and Costa Rica, Carlos Alvarado Quesada.
The agenda of the Forum for the Defense of Democracy includes four other panels on “Aggression against Democracy in the Americas”, “Dictatorships in the Americas”, “Democracy and Organized Crime Dictatorships” and “Defense of Democracy.”
The panel “Aggression against Democracy in the Americas” will include the participation of the Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Luis Almagro, and several former presidents such as Argentina’s Mauricio Macri, Colombia’s Andres Pastrana, Costa Rica’s Luis Guillermo Solis and Ecuador’s Osvaldo Hurtado.
At the end of the forum, the invited presidents are expected to issue a final document, in the form of a declaration, on “concrete actions related to the application of the instruments that democracy has for its defense and strengthening”.
According to the agenda published by the Secretariat of Communication, the Ecuadorian president, who will leave office on May 24, will attend interviews in Miami with the media between next Thursday and Friday, on topics such as the defense of democracy, the fight against corruption, freedom of expression and the defense of human rights.
