In El American Libre, Pablo Kleinman analyzes what urban violence is and what selective justice means in light of the violence generated by the death of George Floyd.

In his analysis, Kleinman explained that it seems that some riots are good, while others are unacceptable when you follow the logic of democrats and their defenders in the media. He argued that, in reality, justice should be for everyone equally regardless of political leanings.

“Those who destroy property, movable and immovable; those who commit aggressions either against law enforcement agents or against civilians, should be charged regardless of the causes they decide to support.”

Likewise, he indicated that this is not what the left intends. For members of the Democratic Party, violence is condemned depending on the ideology of the rioters. He gave an example: the call made by Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) to protest if officer Derek Chauvin was not found guilty of the death of George Floyd. “Some riots deserve legal protection, and others are attacked harshly; it all depends on the political orientation of the rioters.”

In Chauvin’s case, the jury found the police officer guilty on all counts. The former police officer faced charges of second-degree murder, punishable by up to 40 years in prison; third-degree murder, with a maximum sentence of 25 years; and second-degree manslaughter, with a sentence of 10 years. The sentence to be served is still unknown.

The risks of selective justice

Given the facts, Kleinman questioned whether justice can actually exist under the threats made by Maxine Water to revive Black Lives Matter-like protests in 2020. He highlighted that the same people who pressured the jury in the Chauvin case are pushing for other political groups to be repressed.

“A jury in the United States pressured by a known politician to deliver a certain verdict. A jury threatened with violence. These are the same progressives who are calling for authorities to crack down with all the severity of the law on supporters of former President Donald Trump who participated in the Jan. 6 events on Capitol Hill.”

He also argued that in the Capitol Hill case, Democrats have prevented progress in the investigation of the death of a protester at the hands of police. “It is the clearest indication that the modern left subordinates all principles to the distinction between political friend and foe. The Democratic Party also sees itself as allied with a group of violent protesters. The excesses of that group should be tolerated as an understandable reaction to racial injustice and their enemy should be punished,” Kleinman said.

He also recalled that the Black Lives Matter protests in 2020 left millions of dollars in property damage. This despite the fact that various political groups and the BLM itself have said that these were peaceful demonstrations.

“So peaceful were these protests that they caused more than $2 billion in damages and around 15,000 violent arrests. This is according to figures given by those who say the protests were peaceful. The real number will probably be higher.”

Finally, he warned about the consequences of continuing to allow and encourage this type of situation for American civil society. He mentioned that the rule of law would be put at risk.

“They are playing with fire with this selective approach to incite or condemn violence depending on who commits it and for what reasons. They are mistaken if they think these riots will be limited to their preferred causes.”
