Tesla owner Elon Musk told employees at the electric vehicle giant that he will have to make a 10% staff cut as he has a “super bad feeling” about the future of the U.S. economy, according to reports.

Musk announced in an email that Tesla will “pause all hiring worldwide” due to the state of the U.S. economy, according to Reuters.

Recently, the billionaire has warned on more than one occasion that the U.S. economy is headed for a recession. Last Thursday, Musk said that the Covid pandemic convinced many that they “don’t actually need to work hard” and that “some bankruptcies need to happen.”

More warnings to Tesla employees

Musk’s new email comes a couple of days after another letter went viral in which the entrepreneur warned his employees that they must return to work in person or resign.

According to Tesla’s SEC filings for the last four months of 2021, Musk’s company and its subsidiaries have nearly 100,000 employees. A 10% cut would mean the layoff of about 10,000 workers.

The world’s richest man, according to Forbes, did not clarify the reasons for his “bad feeling” about the economy or offer further details about the company’s next steps.
