The main enemies of the United States will use Joe Biden’s immigration openness as a tool to destabilize the country, warned Joseph Humire, a Global Security expert specialized in transnational threats in the Western Hemisphere.
In conversation with El American, Humire pointed out that regimes such as Russia, China, Iran, and Venezuela could take advantage of Biden’s new immigration policies to weaken the United States.
“The thing about immigration policies is that they can bring serious results even if they are not intended,” the specialist pointed out.
“We should all have empathy for migrants, however, since the bad guys are what they are, they use migration as a destabilization tool,” he added.
“Maybe Biden has good intentions taking into account that migrants have a need and the United States is practically a home for immigrants because we have always been very kind. But we cannot be taken advantage of because the migratory chains are being manipulated and used by powers to weaken the countries where they arrive,” Humire stated.
President Biden’s Administration is gradually advancing in the immigration reform with which it seeks to reverse Trump’s policies. Among the orders signed by the President is a review of the asylum process at the U.S.-Mexico border, as well as the immigration system.
In Mexico, on February 24th, the registration of the first group of asylum seekers from the camp in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, began. According to UNHCR, about 750 migrants are in the settlement waiting for their chance to cross into the United States.
“Biden may say he wants to relax migration at the southern border with Mexico, but he’s not thinking that there are forces from South and Central America that could take advantage of the situation to destabilize our border,” Humire said.
“If we are talking about China, Russia and Iran being a threat, then weakening our borders is not a good policy,” the global security specialist reiterated.
Humire recalled that in 2018 he discovered how in the migrant caravans there were infiltrators who lied even about where they came from, and their mission was to eventually reach the United States.
“When there were the migrant caravans of 2018 much was said that they were not only Latin American migrants. I was in Guatemala and I can guarantee you that there were people from other regions who even lied about where they came from. Some said they were from Bangladesh and it turns out they were from Palestine,” he said.
Humire’s statements are in line with those of Tony Porvaznik, Chief of the Yuma Sector Border Patrol, who told Fox News that Biden’s policies could lead to a spiral out of control at the border.
“When that happens, we will quickly overwhelm our ability to hold those people and go back to the situation where we have to release people if the laws don’t change,” he said.
What does Biden’s immigration openness consist of?
In October 2020 Trump marked nearly 400 miles of border wall built on the southern border since 2017; however with the arrival of Biden to the Presidency construction will stop.
“Not one foot of wall will be built under my Administration,” promised Biden who will now have to face the arrival of thousands of migrants.
The now President also promised on the campaign trail to impose a 100-day moratorium on deportation, significantly increase the refugee cap and eliminate a number of policies the Administration has implemented to stem the flow of migrants.
Biden pledged to end the Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP) that keeps migrants in Mexico while their hearings take place.
This is Trump’s “Stay in Mexico” policy, which was criticized by Democrats for allegedly “endangering migrants”; but Trump officials claim it has been key to ending the “catch and release” of migrants.
Border officials warn that ending such policies, including the 100-day moratorium on deportations, could lead to a surge at the border.
“When that happens, we will quickly exceed our capacity to hold those people and go back to the situation where we have to release people if the laws don’t change,” Yuma Sector Border Patrol Chief Tony Porvaznik told Fox News.
