The singer Eric Clapton said on Wednesday that he will refuse to perform shows in venues that require vaccination certificates from the public, after British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced Tuesday the lifting of the restriction measures for social gatherings, except for nightclubs, which will have to ask for a ” health pass ” to attendees.

According to Rolling Stone magazine, the musician used the account of Italian architect, film producer and well-known “anti-vaccine” militant Robin Monotti on the Telegram messaging platform to deliver the message.

“I wish to say that I will not perform on any stage where there is a discriminated audience present. Unless there is provision made for all people to attend, I reserve the right to cancel the show,” Clapton said.

The guitarist and songwriter made known his position against vaccination and prevention measures against the coronavirus pandemic since 2020. In addition, in May of this year, the 76-year-old guitarist had given details about his “disastrous” experience after being inoculated with the AstraZeneca formula, whose application he described as a product of “forced propaganda,” according to Rolling Stone magazine.

Eric Clapton will perform in the United Kingdom in May 2022, but before that he will give eight concerts in September 2021 in different auditoriums in the United States where a “vaccination certificate” is not required to enjoy the events.

United Kingdom became during the last weeks one of the European countries most affected by the spread of the Delta variant of COVID-19 with an exponential increase of cases. This Thursday alone, 39,906 positive cases were recorded.

Faced with this scenario and with the opening of the activities, the Conservative Boris Johnson is looking for alternatives to return to a downward trend, so he proposed the implementation of a vaccination certificate approved by the British National Health Service for those over 18 years of age.
