The White House announced on Monday that it reached border agreements with Mexico, Guatemala, and Honduras for the deployment of officials at their borders. In this way, they intend to prevent the passage of undocumented migrants. The announcement was made by spokeswoman Jen Psaki.

“The objective is to make it more difficult to make the journey, and make crossing the borders more difficult. We worked with them to increase law enforcement at the border to deter the travel, which is a treacherous journey,” said Psaki.

The spokeswoman did not specify when the agreements were reached, only that they were signed in recent weeks. However, the announcement comes after the U.S. government revealed last week record numbers of arrests of undocumented immigrants at its border with Mexico, with more than 172,000 in the month of March, including almost 19,000 minors, an all-time record.

Earlier, White House aide Tyler Moran said the Biden-Harris administration reached agreements with these countries to put more troops on their own borders, as reported by journalist Ana Cabrera on her Twitter account.
