Fauci and Collins Kept Quiet About Possible Origin of Pandemic So As Not to Damage ‘International Harmony’

Anthony Fauci, director of the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), had information that the virus may have been intentionally genetically engineered. NIAID had information about the possibility that the COVID-19 virus could have been leaked from a Wuhan laboratory; but he and other doctors preferred to remain silent so as not to “damage international harmony.”

House Republicans revealed Tuesday, January 11, that Fauci was warned about the possible leakage of the virus and the possibility that it may have been intentionally genetically engineered.

Emails accessed by the lawmakers and exposed by The Telegraph show that several scientists —including Fauci— saw a possible leak from the Wuhan lab as the source of the pandemic, but feared it would affect “international harmony.”

Republican lawmakers sent a letter to Xavier Becerra, secretary of Health and Human Services, to obtain an interview with Fauci to clarify the situation.

“It is imperative we investigate if this information was conveyed to the rest of the government and whether this information would have changed the U.S. response to the pandemic,” the Republicans said in the missive.

“We call on you to immediately lift these redactions and produce the email communications to Congress,” they wrote. “Further, considering the import of the above questions, we request Dr. Anthony Fauci be made immediately available to sit for a transcribed interview. Please respond by January 18, 2022 to confirm,” the letter said.

The lawmakers want to know if Fauci warned the White House about the virus; and they also want to know if the doctor was aware of the State Department’s warnings about the Wuhan lab’s safety.

The letter was signed by Rep. James Comer, R-Ky., the ranking member of the House Oversight and Reform Committee; and Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, ranking member of the Judiciary Committee.

“Dr. Fauci and other NIH leaders knew the Wuhan Lab Leak was legitimate. But they still downplayed it & conspired to make the issue disappear. Oversight Republicans will continue uncovering valuable evidence on the origins of COVID-19,” said Republican Rep. Comer on his Twitter account.

Did Fauci withhold more information?

A report in The Telegraph revealed that an email dated February 2, 2020 sent by Jeremy Farrar, director of the biomedical research charity Wellcome Trust, to Fauci and Dr. Francis Collins, said that “one likely explanation” was that the coronavirus had evolved rapidly from a SARS-like virus inside human tissue in a low-security laboratory.

The email went on to say that such evolution could have “accidentally created a virus primed for rapid human-to-human transmission.”

According to The Telegraph, “a leading scientist,” whom it did not mention by name, told Farrar that “further debate would do unnecessary harm to science in general and science in China in particular.”

Dr. Collins, a former director of the U.S. National Institutes of Health, warned at the time that further debate about the origin of the pandemic “could damage international harmony.”

In a February 2, 2020 email to Fauci and others Dr. Collins wrote: “I share your view that a swift convening of experts in a confidence inspiring framework (WHO seems really the only option) is needed, or the voices of conspiracy will quickly dominate, doing great potential harm to science and international harmony.”

Fauci maintained a radical position on the origin of the disease, assuring that it came from an animal and not from human error. Months after the start of the pandemic he went so far as to say that the virus most likely “evolved in nature and then jumped species,” rather than being “artificially or deliberately manipulated.”

However in June 2020 he admitted that there was a possibility that COVID-19 had arisen from a “laboratory leak” in Wuhan.

Various news reports linked the National Institutes of Health (NIH) with a $600,000 funding to WIV through a non-profit organization to research bat coronaviruses. However, Fauci denied the NIH’s involvement with the controversial Gain of Function experiment.

Fauci has not acknowledged that he knew in advance about the “unusual characteristics of the virus,” nor has he clarified whether he was involved in funding various studies at the Wuhan lab, and he has yet to admit to mistakes made regarding treatment and measures to contain the pandemic.
