The women of ABC’s “The View” weighed in the abortion debate in light of an upcoming Supreme Court decision that would overturn landmark cases Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey.
Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar lashed out against token conservative Alyssa Farah Griffin for challenging their views on the hot-button issue. Watch:
“This is an uncomfortable conversation we have to have,” Griffin said. “At what point does a baby in the womb have rights?”
“Listen, it doesn’t matter when you think it is,” Goldberg replied bluntly. “If I don’t think that that when it is —”
“Is it a ninth month? Is it a third trimester?” Griffin asked.
“Listen, I don’t have to tell you. Because —” Goldberg began.
“It’s none of your business,” Joy Behar chimed in.
“It’s your decision,” Goldberg added.
“Yeah,” Sunny Hostin agreed.
“What you do with your body, and how your family work,” Goldberg continued.
“It’s a really tough —” Griffin tried to say.
“And for me, I don’t care what your religious beliefs are,” Goldberg said.
“But it’s not even a religion,” Griffin pointed out. “It’s a philosophical debate. When does the baby in the womb —”
“OK OK,” Goldberg stopped her. “Wait, wait, wait.”
Goldberg then went to break rather than have to deal with her views being challenged.
But Griffin is right. There are philosophical grounds for objecting to abortion that are separate from organized religion and have to do with Aristotelian ontology (a baby is a human being in-becoming) as well as Lockean arguments about Natural Law.
However, the issue is that not only have abortion advocates been anti-Christian in their denial of human rights for the unborn, but they are fundamentally opposed to the core tenets of Western Civilization.
Furthermore, their arguments tend to be anti-scientific in the sense that abortion advocates propose a developing fetus is not yet a human being, despite possessing human DNA from both a mother and a father.
It should be added that the form of nourishment of a viable unborn baby in the womb, namely, an umbilical cord and placenta, rather than breast milk or a bottle outside of the womb, does not fundamentally alter the fact that we are still talking about a human being. Thus, a baby’s body is not identical with a mother’s body. It is not a matter of ‘my body, my choice’ — as if progressives’ sincerity about this argument could even be taken as credible in the aftermath of the Covid pandemic.
These are philosophical and scientific points that cannot be wished away on the grounds that one ‘does not care’ about religion or by claiming that human rights ‘don’t matter.’
