During the trial of young Kyle Rittenhouse, Kenosha prosecutors Thomas Binger and James Kraus made some curious statements and attitudes that caught the attention of the audience and some experts.

In closing arguments, the lead prosecutor in the case, Thomas Binger went so far as to claim that Rittenhouse “forfeited the right to self-defense” for carrying a gun, further erroneously stating that “there are no left-handed or right-handed firearms.”

“You lose the right to self-defense when you’re the one who brought the gun,” Binger said during his argument. “When you’re the one creating the danger, when you’re the one provoking other people,” he noted.

Binger further argued that Rittenhouse’s defense could not claim self-defense “against an unarmed man like this.”

To express the final arguments for his prosecution, Binger put his finger on the trigger of a gun as he raised it.

“What we see in the video, him putting the fire extinguisher on the ground and then raising the gun,” Binger said as he raised the rifle and took aim during closing arguments in an attempt to show the jury how Rittenhouse allegedly held his own gun before the shooting.

From prosecutor to figure of entertainment?

The allegations presented by the prosecutor generated reactions not only from gun-carrying specialists but from lawyers who debunked Binger’s statements during the trial.

Gun rights advocate and radio host Dana Loesch reacted after seeing the prosecutor pointing a gun during the hearing.

Loesch, a former spokeswoman for the NRA, told Fox News that Binger showed his need for basic firearms training by mishandling an Armalite-style rifle, with his finger on the trigger and the stock in the wrong position.

“To be honest, I’m surprised that a bailiff or … a state trooper in the courtroom didn’t intervene,” she said.

Loesch went on to say that he believes Rittenhouse showed better firearms discipline in the videos about that August 2020 night that were shown in the courtroom than the two prosecutors who prosecuted the case against him. She added that the media and the political left have tried to argue about race, when in fact it was a then-white juvenile shooting three white males.

Loesch’s reactions were not the only ones, the Daily Caller published an editorial attempting to dismantle the prosecutor’s claims that Rittenhouse was not entitled to self-defense by possessing a gun.

“But Binger’s claim lacks reason, as he is seemingly disregarding the possibility that Rittenhouse could have been strangled or beaten to death by Joseph Rosenbaum or any other individual during the riot, despite them technically being unarmed,” the editorial says.

It remains to be seen what the verdict in the case will be. For some, it is a case of an armed teenager responding to race riots by taking justice into his own hands; while for others, Rittenhouse used his gun in self-defense after he was attacked by members of a violent mob.
