Mayra Flores, the first Mexican-born woman to be elected to the U.S. Congress, said Monday that it is necessary to impeach Alejandro Mayorkas, Secretary of Homeland Security, and insisted on promoting safe and orderly migration to the United States.
In addition, Flores highlighted that the border wall in South Texas was built during the Obama administration. The congresswoman called on immigration officials to be supported by the Biden White House so that they can do their job. “But I want people to know that the wall in South Texas actually was built during the Obama administration and yet during that time claim no one called it racist. And that just shows the hypocrisy”.
Mayra Flores defends legal migration
The congresswoman pointed out that the Biden administration promotes illegal migration and does not look after the safety and well-being of illegal migrants who are subjected to criminal groups that operate at the border crossings.

“This administration is putting in policies that are encouraging illegal immigration. And also there are organizations in the United States that are going to South America that are going to Mexico and literally paying for their hotel, for their food to come here to the United States. And they are taking advantage of these people that are in need, that are wanting to escape crime”, she commented.
She claimed to acknowledge that there are good people who want to come to work in the United States in pursuit of the American dream. For this reason, she insisted that all measures must be taken so that they can migrate legally and safely. She affirmed that her work as a congressman is focused on that.
“So we have to fix the legal process so good people can come here to the United States. And that is also a priority of mine as well”, she emphasized.
El American’s Editorial Board called for the impeachment of Mayorkas in a scathing editorial published on August 1, 2022.
“Although Biden must share the blame for this tragedy, the buck stops with the leadership of the DHS. Republicans may move to #ImpeachMayorkas should they take back control of Congress later this year, but that is too long to wait. The onus is now on Congress to move against this cynical, incompetent, and dishonest political actor,” reads the editorial.
