A 12-year-old Miami, Florida high school student was arrested and placed under house arrest after he threatened to kill 17 students in his class for allegedly being bullied.

The minor, who is a student at the Catholic school Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic School of the Archdiocese of Miami, was arrested last Friday and appeared Wednesday on a Zoom hearing before Judge Scott M. Bernstein, Local 10 News reported.

Officers arrested the minor at night at his parents’ home while he was playing video games with his Xbox on the console from which he had internet access and used to upload the death threats, which were reported by other users to police.

Judge Bernstein ordered in today’s hearing that the minor undergo a psychological evaluation and be placed under house arrest with an electronic monitoring device, while prohibiting him from using the internet, social networks, and his Xbox.

This event takes place at a time when the country is still in shock after last May’s massacre at a school in Texas, when a young man entered an elementary school in the town of Uvalde with a gun and killed 19 children and 2 teachers.

The state of Florida has reinforced school security and placed emphasis on the mental health of students.
