The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office immediately notified the U.S. Border Patrol (CBP), which responded to the scene and took possession of the black bag with the drug inside wrapped with duct tape.

The Coast Guard has increased the presence of the United States and its allies in the Eastern Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Basin, known drug transit areas in Central and South America, as part of its Western Hemisphere strategy to combat drug trafficking.

Together with combined forces from the Dominican Republic and Panama, they seized between December 2020 and last January in Caribbean waters some 1,814 kilograms of cocaine, with a black market value of approximately $69 million, the Coast Guard reported earlier this year.
