The Florida Department of Health took to Twitter to allege that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) misstated its count of COVID-19 infection cases. As a result, the figure was incorrectly triggered generating an alarm.

According to the Florida Department of Health, the CDC did not update its case tracker for the state because it combined “multiple days into one” saying there were 28,317 new cases on Sunday.

Florida Department of Health to CDC: You are “wrong again”

“Wrong again. The number of cases @CDCgov released for Florida today is incorrect. They combined MULTIPLE days into one. We anticipate CDC will correct the record,” the Health Department said on Twitter.

The Health Department said there had been 15,319 cases on Sunday and a three-day average of 18,795.

While various media outlets are blaming Governor Ron DeSantis for the increase in coronavirus cases, condemning the Florida governor’s decision not to require vaccination passports and masks in schools, DeSantis has been promoting the importance of vaccinations in order to return to normalcy.

In reality, what DeSantis has done is to let the people of Florida have the freedom to decide whether to get vaccinated or not, whether to wear a mask or not, under the risk that not doing so would entail. The governor has emphasized the importance of each citizen deciding, without establishing radical impositions.

In addition, the governor made it clear that it is the right of parents to make decisions about their children’s education and medical care.

DeSantis’ supporters see the governor as an infallible presidential candidate because of his leadership during the crisis and the fact that he did not resort to the same blockades that other states opted for, negatively affecting the economy. Instead, his detractors say he has been reckless and see the recent spread in the state as evidence.

The governor of Florida maintains his pro-freedom stance and said that “we can have a free society or a biomedical security state” and in the same vein stressed that Florida will remain a “free state.”
