Floridians who wish to vote in the August 23rd primaries to elect candidates for the November elections to renew part of Congress and other offices such as governors have this Monday the last opportunity to register.

Florida law establishes that only those who are registered as members of a political party may participate in a primary, except for exceptions such as the election of candidates for judges and other non-partisan offices.

The registration process ends today and allows for a change of party affiliation.

The Democratic primary in Florida will produce the candidate who will compete in November with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, a Republican who, according to polls, will win reelection and is also considered a potential contender against Donald Trump for his party’s 2024 presidential nomination.

The two leading challengers to DeSantis are former governor and current Washington congressional representative Charlie Crist and state Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried, with the former having the edge, according to the polls.

Christ was elected governor of Florida in 2006 as a Republican but left that party in 2010 and is now running as a Democrat.

According to a recent poll by St. Pete Polls, more than 49% of Democratic voters intend to vote for Crist and 24% for Fried.

However, according to polls, neither has a chance of defeating DeSantis in a state where the Republican Party dominates Congress and whose voters leaned in the last presidential election (2020) to Donald Trump, who pulled three points ahead Democrat Joe Biden, the current president, in Florida.
