A popular jury in San Francisco, California, on Tuesday, found a former employee of the social network Twitter guilty of spying for the Saudi Arabian government between 2013 and 2015.

According to court documents show, Ahmad Abouammo, 44, of Egyptian origin and residing in the United States, was found guilty of acting as an agent for the Saudi country, money laundering, conspiracy to commit fraud, and document forgery.

The accumulation of these four offenses could lead to 10 to 20 years in prison.

During his time working for Twitter, Abouammo obtained private data of users critical of the Saudi regime —many of whom used pseudonyms to achieve anonymity— and shared it with the Saudi government in exchange for money.

At Twitter, Abouammo was responsible for striking deals with influential users in the Middle East and Africa.

Abouammo shared with the Saudi government information about the emails and phone numbers of critics with the government.
