The mayor of Miami, Francis Suarez, called for an international military intervention led by the United States to “protect the Cuban people from a bloodbath.” The request follows a historic day of mass protests that took place in several Cuban cities.

At a press conference, accompanied by political leaders and activists of Cuban origin, Suarez said he has been in contact with the State Department monitoring the demonstrations on the Caribbean island.

“They are drug traffickers, they are terrorists and they are people who are exporting the ideology of communism throughout the hemisphere,” the mayor added about the Cuban regime. “This affects the national security of the United States.”

The mayor also called on Cuba’s Armed Forces and Police to side with the protesters, stating that “the eyes of the world are on Cuba.”

“The world can now clearly see the true face of the Cuban government and how it has systematically repressed, murdered, and starved its people under the premise of a failed ideology,” Francis Suarez said.

He said that the liberation of Cuba from the communist dictatorship installed by the Castro brothers and currently led by Miguel Díaz-Canel “has to happen now” and that this could “liberate the entire hemisphere” and contribute to the freedom of “millions of Venezuelans and Nicaraguans”.

Suarez’s press conference was attended by U.S. Congresswoman Maria Elvira Salazar, State Senator Ileana Garcia, Miami Commissioner Joe Carollo, and Cuban activists Orlando Gutierrez-Boronat, Marcel Felipe, Sylvia Iriondo, and Horacio Garcia.

Francis Suarez invited Miami residents to support the Cubans through a peaceful demonstration.
