Mexico went to the polls to elect 6 governors, while the war drums are beating for the presidential election. Gerardo Garibay Camarena talks to us about this topic in Fuerte y Claro and explains how political power is distributed in the country.

“All the opposition has to be on alert. Now, power can always be distributed, except when it is not. What keeps AMLO’s alliance is the charisma of Andrés Manuel López Obrador, which is undeniable. He is the most important politician of the last century in Mexico,” said Garibay Camarena.

The future of the parties

However, he detailed that at the level of structure, the alliance is not maintained only because of AMLO. “They are there because they want positions, decision-making spaces, and because they want money and power. López Obrador has shown an enormous political life to balance those ambitions without blood reaching the river,” he commented.

He added that, at least until 2024, there will be no changes in the parties, and they will be maintained. He highlighted that the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) experienced the worst results for his party in years. “This is the way the results are,” he said.
