Georgia in Four Keypoints: the State that Defines What the ‘Biden Era’ Will Entail

The long-awaited January 5th has arrived: it’s the day the polls opened for voters in Georgia, a population that will define the future of the United States after electing two senators who will mark what the “Biden era” will be like.

Three million voters have already cast their ballots, which translates into a record for a run-off election in Georgia. The total number of early votes for the general election was 3.6 million.

Polls in Georgia close at 7 p.m.; that means that voters who are in line by that time can vote. Voters can also leave their absentee ballots in a mailbox before 7 pm.

Georgia was one of the states where it took several days to count the ballots during the general election, so there may not be a clear winner tonight.

Why will Georgia define the future of the United States?

The U.S. election cycle was extended into January due to two battles between four candidates for the U.S. Senate. On November 2nd, none of them reached the 50% of the votes they needed to win the election.

The importance lies in the fact that the Democrats, who maintain the majority of the House of Representatives, are placing their hopes in Georgia to define the role they will play in the Senate. Meanwhile the race for that state is an opportunity for Republicans to curb and control the initiatives of the radical left.

Republicans have controlled the Senate for the past two cycles, limiting Barack Obama’s agenda but pushing Donald Trump’s. On these elections will depend therefore the degrees of freedom that the Biden Administration will enjoy.

The Senate is composed of 100 people, 50 seats already belong to the Republicans, while 48 are in the hands of the Democrats (counting the two independents who always vote with them); Georgia will define, then, if the Republicans will indeed have a majority or if the issue will remain at 50-50.

If the Republicans win even one of Georgia’s elections, they will have a majority in the Senate for the next two years and will have an effective veto over President-elect Joe Biden’s agenda.

The U.S. Constitution states that the person who serves as the vice president of the country also serves as the president of the Senate and therefore would have the vote that would break any tie in legislative votes. If the Democrats won, the most radical leftist Senator, Kamala Harris (Vice President-elect), would have the power to break any ties.

What’s at stake?

The candidates themselves have made clear what is at stake in the election; Democrat Jon Ossoff says he plans to “take power away from Mitch McConnell,” while Republican Kelly Loeffler has emphasized that “everything is at stake” in Georgia.

“Georgia’s voters are literally our nation’s last line of defense in protecting this legacy,” said Republican Senator Marco Rubio in his article published on Fox News.

Rubio noted that Georgia’s runoff election has far greater implications than a conventional election.

“If Democrat Senate candidates Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff are elected on January 5th, the Democrats’ imminent socialist assault on our nation will make President Obama’s first two years in office look moderate in comparison,” Rubio said.

The Republican senator recalled that with a Democrat-controlled Congress, Obama had free rein to “create liberal laws, nominate radicals to critical executive positions, and enact progressive regulations that hurt the economy and workers.

A Democrat Senate will open the doors to socialism

The Republican campaign has turned to urge millions of voters to participate in the elections despite doubts about irregularities.

If the Democrats are successful in Georgia’s runoff election on Tuesday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer will have the power to enact the socialist agenda of the radical left that has become the mainstream of today’s Democratic Party,” Rubio added.

The Republican Senator predicts that if control of the Senate is won by the Democrats, socialist initiatives like the “Green New Deal, socialized medicine, European-style taxes on U.S. industry and workers, radical regulations that will harm small businesses, and capitulation to the Chinese Communist Party will be on the agenda.

“On January 5th, the whole nation will be watching. If Georgians believe in our democracy and our nation’s institutions, they will reject Warnock and Ossoff. And in doing so, they will give Senate Republicans the power to prevent the socialist attack that the radical left is actively planning,” he said.

Donald Trump Jr. wrote an article calling on citizens to exercise their vote to prevent “radical liberal policies from becoming law.

“A Democrat majority in the Senate will work to dismantle everything we have fought so hard for. The Democrats will immediately abolish obstructionism, allowing them to pass whatever far-left policies they want with a simple majority vote,” Trump said.

“My friends Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue are the only thing standing between dangerous liberal policies that kill jobs and hurt Georgian workers so they don’t get passed by Congress,” he added.

Trump’s son recalled the Democratic policies that will abolish all of his father’s efforts. He said the future of the economy, security, energy, health and the future of American justice will be defined by this election. “Senators Loeffler and Perdue will vote against this failed and backward policy,” he stated.

Georgia will define the future of Biden’s agenda

Tyler Olson recalled in his Fox News article that Biden’s agenda, among other things, “includes a public health insurance option, rolling back the 2017 tax cuts, more help for coronavirus, rolling back Trump’s immigration policies and other executive orders, and ambitious environmental programs.

A Republican-controlled Senate could get in the way of many of these priorities, forcing Biden to moderate his policies so they can pass through the Senate.

A report by the Foundation for Economic Education (FEE) revealed that Biden’s transition agenda is full of plans to increase state control.

The Biden-Harris duo has already published their proposals, and among them the most worrying things is that they would use the Defense Production Act to address the COVID-19 pandemic. The Defense Production Act allows the Federal Government to take control of private industries and mandate manufacturing.

According to FEE, Biden would use this act to take over more private manufacturers and force them to increase the supply of temporary protective equipment.

Another regulation of concern is that as part of the emergency economic recovery, Biden would implement a minimum hourly wage of $15, a provision that could establish national price controls and undermine the free market.

The article published by journalist Brad Polumbo for FEE mentions a study by four economists from Stanford University, where Biden’s proposals were analyzed. It concludes that government interventions would distort labor incentives, lower productivity and kill jobs.
