The Palestinian terrorist group, Hamas, which de facto rules the Gaza Strip, today congratulated the Taliban for regaining control of Kabul and much of Afghanistan, calling it a “victory” against the United States after two decades of war.

In a statement, Hamas “congratulates the Taliban movement and its courageous leadership on this victory, which was the culmination of its long jihad (holy war) over the past twenty years” and wishes “success to the Afghan Muslim people and their leadership in achieving unity, stability and prosperity for Afghanistan,” and stressed that “victory comes only from God.”

The terrorist organization, which has controlled Gaza since 2007 and is linked to the Muslim Brotherhood political current, has not historically associated with groups like the Taliban, who entered Kabul yesterday, Sunday, without encountering resistance and with almost all of Afghanistan’s provinces under their control.

Mullah Baradar Akhund, head of the Taliban’s political office in Qatar, today declared the end of the war and their victory, an unexpectedly swift achievement, which yesterday also culminated in the flight of Afghan President Ashraf Ghani.

On the first day in Afghanistan under Taliban control since the U.S. invasion in 2001, Baradar referred to this as “the moment of proof,” and Kabul dawned today in insurgent hands, patrolling the streets and controlling the movement of people.

The collapse of the country occurred within weeks, after U.S. and NATO forces in May began the final phase of withdrawal by handing over all their military bases to the then active regular Afghan Army, which now appears to have volatilized in the face of the Taliban onslaught.
