Vice President Kamala Harris suggested Monday that children belong to the state and that the government must move forward on the climate agenda to protect them.

In an interview for Late Night with Seth Meyers on NBC, Harris said that children belong to the country and to communities, and that the rulers in America have the “authority” to go into classrooms and teach lessons in democracy.

“When you see our kids, and I truly believe that they are our children, they are the children of our country, of our communities, I mean, our future is really bright if we prioritize them, and therefore prioritize the climate crisis,” Harris answered when asked by Meyers about her visits to public schools.

The vice president said that prioritizing children means “bring our country together,” and went on to explain that government authorities in other countries seem to lack the option to visit schools, unlike American politicians.

“We still, as the United States, can walk into these rooms with a certain level of authority to talk about the importance of democracy, the importance of rule of law, the importance of human rights, and that gives us a standing in the world,” Harris said.

The Internet refuted Harris

Social media were quick to respond. Outraged users reminded the Vice President that children are the responsibility of parents, not the state.

“We don’t co-parent with government (especially the climate crazies),” Freedom Works noted.

Journalist and producer Kyle Becker, a contributor to El American, recalled that Harris has no children of her own.

Commentator, editor and podcaster Stephen Miller simply said, “nope.”

Corey DeAngelis, executive director of the Educational Freedom Institute, called parents to attention.

When one Twitter user remarked that Harris used “a lot of words to say nothing,” another user offered a different opinion: “She said something. She repeated a communist principle that children being children of the state and not of a family as ordained by God.”
