Tulane University made a curious decision: to invite the son of the president of the United States, Hunter Biden, to teach a class on “fake news” focused on polarization in the American media.

Hunter, who has been embroiled for months in a series of scandals related to his foreign business dealings, personal controversies, and a federal investigation, will give the lecture next fall at the college located in New Orleans, Louisiana.

The Daily Mail revealed part of the content of the course through an image that includes the title of the program and the 10 guests who will attend the class. The first personality highlighted is Hunter Biden.

“Media Polarization and Public Policy Impacts,” is the name of the program. “A special ten-week course for those interested in media relations and policy.”

The class description is as follows:

“America’s rapidly advancing partisan divide is fueled substantially by the growing political polarization increasingly evident in our news media. This course will explore the current state of the media landscape in the United States and how media polarization, fake news and the economics of the news business impact public policymaking in Washington, DC.”

Course where Hunter Biden will participate as a guest.

The course will be taught by Mitchell Sellers from POLS and Andrew Schwartz, head of communications at CSIS, which is the second-largest think tank in the United States.

The program then presents a list of nine political and journalistic personalities made up, for the most part, of communicators working in left-leaning media.

  1. Hunter Biden.
  2. Dr. Deborah Birks, former White House COVID coordinator.
  3. Susan Glasser, The New Yorker.
  4. Margaret Sullivan, Washington Post.
  5. Juan Williams, Fox News.
  6. Kylie Atwood, CNN.
  7. Margaret Brennan, CBS News Face The Nation.
  8. Bret Stephens, New York Times.
  9. Dr. Michael Fauntroy, Howard University.

Conservative social media backlash against “Professor” Hunter Biden

Social media users, and several journalistic personalities, did not miss the opportunity to criticize – and also caricature – the new “professor” Hunter Biden.

Hunter Biden teaching a course on “fake news” is about par for the course these days. Frankly, he’s better qualified to teach a course on the uses of parmesan cheese.

Jack Posobiec also didn’t let the news pass him by and left a comment on his timeline referencing the president’s son’s shady business dealings in Ukraine:

Hunter Biden is as qualified to teach a college course as he is an expert of Ukrainian energy markets

Brent Bozell, the founder of the Media Research Center NewsBusters (MRC) organization, tweeted:

Hunter Biden teaching a class on Fake News is like Ted Bundy teaching a class on Dating.

One inconsistency about the lecture at Tulane University

Tulane University’s proposed course is based on a latent reality: the U.S. media is increasingly partisan.

This is evidenced by Edelman’s annual barometer, which revealed a complex situation for American journalism: citizens’ trust in the media and journalists is at historic lows.

Current trust in the media stands, according to the study, at 27 %. In addition, 56 % of Americans believe that “journalists and reporters are purposely trying to mislead people by saying things they know are false or gross exaggerations.” Likewise, 58 % of Americans agree with the statement that “most news organizations are more concerned with supporting an ideology or political position than with informing the public.”

Therefore, it makes sense that Tulane University would provide its students with a course to analyze the current partisan situation in the news media. However, one key fact is that the vast majority of Americans who distrust the media are Republicans.

After the November elections, Edelman surveyed Americans again and the figures got sharper, but the gap is very clear: 57 % of Democrats trust the media against only 18 % of Republicans.

Besides inviting Hunter Biden and several journalists working in progressive media, Tulane University only invited a Fox News communicator – conservative media – and no American right-wing personality who could be the counterpoint to the president’s son.

Perhaps this is why the reactions of conservatives in networks were so negative with the course on “fake news” and media polarization.
