THE RECALCITRANT woke fashion is once again the star of this week’s Idiocy of the Week. This time, it was the University of Pennsylvania that wants to prove it is the most woke university — it certainly has some stiff competition — and has nominated “swimmer” Lia Thomas as woman of the year for the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) award.
Progressivism is still not clear on how to define a woman, but they do seem certain that all women’s awards have to be won by transgender beings. Apparently, that Lia Thomas’ corpulence allows her to win by several lengths all the women’s swimming races is not enough, and she also has to win all the ancillary awards in women’s sports.
There is only one thing in this world more insistent and tiresome than YouTube Premium advertising, and that is the contumacy of the transgender lobby to monopolize absolutely every space reserved for women, from bathrooms to sports to awards shows.
Despite the tabarra, this woke fad is sure to be short-lived, as it has not the slightest logical support, and is only supported by an opportunistic political agenda. But in the case of sports, it is particularly unfair.
Sporting life is quite short, and the window of opportunity for many women to win competitions and awards is being blocked by transgender athletes. Many women who have been striving and sacrificing all their lives are seeing the few years they have to reap the rewards being taken away from them by this fad.
Reactions to the nomination of Lia Thomas
Some leftist athletes like Megan Rapinoe — more leftist than athlete — who have already won it all, are now trying to win stripes in politics by supporting the transgender movement, but athletes who have not yet won and had the option to do so are hitting a wall of injustice.
Many female athletes, the kind who were born female — these days you have to make such truisms clear — have complained bitterly about the nomination of Lia Thomas for NCAA Woman of the Year. Riley Gaines, a swimmer at the University of Kentucky, has said that “this is yet another slap in the face to women.”
Funny how the left considers violence towards women even a compliment, let alone a slap in the face, but when it’s in the figurative sense, they have no problem being the bashers.
Even 1980s tennis legend Martina Navratilova has been outraged by the choice of the University of Pennsylvania and the NCAA. Navratilova was one of the few openly gay sports stars in the 1980s, and became an icon in the LGBT community. However, she is now accused of transphobia and is attacked by the woke hordes because of her stance against the new gender ideology.
A documentary about Navratilova’s life could not be made because of the transgender lobby kicking her out of the progressive club, going so far as to complain that the director of the documentary gave the part to actress Hillary Swank and not a transgender actor in the movie Boys Don’t Cry.
For the left, a female actress cannot play a transgender, and a straight actor should not play gay roles in Hollywood, yet biological men like Lia Thomas can compete and sweep female competitions. No one understands the woke left.
