The Idiocy of the Week: Greta Thunberg’s Show in Germany

Idiotez de la Semana: el show de Greta Thunberg en Alemania, El American

Leer en Español

The show put on by Greta Thunberg and the German Police takes El American’s Idiocy of the Week award.

Last Tuesday, climate agitprop star Greta Thunberg made headlines when she was arrested and dragged away by German police after being removed from a protest against the installation of a coal mine.

Shortly after these images of the new martyr of the climate change religion went around the world, a video began to circulate on the internet giving a very different perspective of the arrest.

In the video, Greta Thunberg and the police can be seen posing for photographers, and you get the feeling that the police officers are smiling under the uniforms, just the opposite of when you see a photo of a child posing happily with a Disney character and you sense that under the mask the employee is not smiling.

From what can be seen in the video, one might think that the German policemen are about to ask the activist for an autograph, however, the German Police have been quick to issue a statement to try to counteract the controversy generated by the situation.

Surreal statement by German police after Greta Thunberg’s arrest

The statement is almost as surreal as the video images themselves. The German police says that they “would never give ourselves to make such recordings”, which sounds like they would have said: “Who are you going to believe, us or your own eyes?”

They guaranteed that the posing is due to the fact that the Police must enable reporting and guarantee the protection of media workers.

North-Rhine Westpahalia’s home affairs minister told the BBC that “the whole situation has been used by those with political motives and the real reason is entirely practical and mundane.”

Of course, climate activists are not politically motivated. The German police – the unfortunate protagonists of harsh repressions during protests against pandemic measures – are not politically motivated either. What’s more, not even politicians are politically motivated. Only those of us who complain about the suppression of freedoms and the increase in taxes and regulations under the guise of climate change have political motives.

Police have also said that those who claim it was a “false arrest” are lying. According to the Police, Greta Thunberg was not arrested, but briefly detained for identification, and no charges will be filed against her.

In other words, it was a false arrest, but it is false that it was a false arrest because it was not an arrest, but a brief detention without criminal consequences. Groucho Marx would be proud.

Meanwhile, Greta continues with her process of media change, in which she is transforming her image from a girl concerned about the climate to a drama queen and martyr of the environmentalist cult that politicians seem to have elevated to a global religion.

“Climate protection is not a crime,” assured Greta Thunberg, omitting that she will face no charges or consequences for her dramatic “arrest.”
