The Idiot of the Week: HBO Max

El American’s Idiot of the Week award goes to HBO Max following the announcement of the premiere of a historical miniseries about Anne Boleyn starring a black actress as the Queen Consort.

HBO Max Spain’s tweet announcing the premiere of the historical miniseries of Anne Boleyn contains a number of inaccuracies that raise some doubts about its historical accuracy. First, Anne Boleyn was queen consort, not a monarch. Secondly, it is not known that she fought neither with the patriarchy, nor against it, nor in its favor. Ah! And, one last extremely important detail, Anne Boleyn was not black.

We don’t know if this HBO Max ad simply wants to take advantage of the woke culture trend to generate controversy. Perhaps they’re falling back on the cliché “it’s better to be talked about badly than not to be talked about at all.” It’s probably just a publicity stunt and not a sincere act of inclusion, diversity and respect for black people and their culture.

In fact, if it were a matter of respect, it would be better to develop movies and series about black characters from history, or even invent new fictional black characters, but not usurp the history of characters from other races. In fact, the recourse to turn white characters into blacks is to detract from black culture. It’s like assuming that blacks don’t have their own interesting stories to tell.

Nor can we rule out that the Anne Boleyn series on HBO Max has made this casting decision in order to defend itself against possible criticism of the quality of the series by calling its detractors racist.

Interestingly, the same people who complain about “cisgender” actors playing transgender characters seem to have no problem with HBO Max’s Anne Boleyn series, and even accuse those who dare to criticize the decision of being racist.

HBO Max, political tool of the woke culture

Unfortunately, it seems that this is not only a simple publicity stunt or a strategy to dodge negative criticism, but is part of the historical revisionism campaign promoted by the left. Although many companies do this to take advantage of the fad, it seems clear that there is a much more perverse political agenda behind it. The intention is to pervert history so that it ceases to matter.

It seems as if it is not in people’s interest to have a rigorous knowledge of history. As if it would be preferable to keep them in ignorance and be able to manipulate them, changing the story at will.

While waiting for a movie with Mel Gibson playing Martin Luther King, or a World War II blockbuster with a black Hitler, we give El American’s Idiot of the Week award to HBO Max for its series with a black Anne Boleyn.
