The Idiot of the Week: Saturday Night Live

Saturday Night Live, the late-night comedy show that revolutionized American television in the 1970s and has served as a springboard for dozens of the most famous comedians in show business, has long since ceased to be funny and became a pathetic propaganda show for the Democratic Party.

In the first episode since the inauguration of the new president, hosted by John Krasinski, and aired last January 30, they did not make the slightest joke or reference to Joe Biden or Kamala Harris, which did not go unnoticed by many viewers.

It’s not that it’s the show’s tradition not to get into politics or respect the president; on the contrary, it has always made fun of all new presidents. In fact, it has spent the last few years acidly mocking Donald Trump, played by Alec Baldwin, who imitated him just as well as his wife Hilaria imitated the Spanish accent.

Plust, it is not that Biden or Harris have not given reasons for mockery. Biden’s Freudian lapses, his developed sense of smell for other people’s scalps or having insinuated that Trump was a dictator for having abused executive orders, to then break all records by compulsively signing up to 40 executive orders in just nine days, would have been fantastic material for a sketch.

Harris’ origins, changing at will, or her shameless ability to claim Martin Luther King’s anecdotes as his own also seem like good premises for a joke.

Saturday Night Live abandons political comedy

But no, Saturday Night Live has decided to abandon comedy and political satire to become a decadent buffoon in the service of the Democratic Party. In fact, calling them buffoons is not fair to buffoons. At least these ones had the courage to laugh at kings and powerful people to their faces, humanizing them and making them feel temporarily like another mortal, yes, at the risk of having their heads chopped off.

A strange tyrant has been Trump, who far from signing executive orders demanding to cut off the heads of opposing buffoons – neither literally, nor figuratively -, has had to endure seeing a replica of his own cut off by Kathy Griffin; while now the comedians of Saturday Night Live renounce any kind of comedy, lest their royal highnesses Democrats, whom they probably consider angels fallen from heaven, get upset.

The left has definitely lost its sense of humor, which begins with the ability to laugh at oneself, and is only dedicated to laughing in the face of their own voters, whom they seem to take for idiots.

Saturday Night Live has stopped telling jokes to become a joke. That’s why, on this occasion, he’s our idiot of the week. We trust they take it with good humor, if they still have any left.
