The Idiot of the Week: UNESCO

El American’s Idiot of the Week award this time goes to UNESCO, with fanfare and a standing ovation. Just as the Galactic Senate applauded and cheered Palpatine when he proclaimed the Galactic Empire in a galaxy far far away, it seems that UNESCO wanted to congratulate “Che” Guevara on his birthday via Twitter and remember him with an excerpt from his speech to the United Nations General Assembly in 1964.

In the video with the excerpt of his speech, UNESCO made sure to omit the part where “Che” Guevara said that “we have to say here what is a known truth and what we have always expressed before the world. Executions, yes. We have shot, we shoot, we will shoot and we will continue shooting as long as it is necessary. Our struggle is a fight to the death.”

It would have been one thing to remember in a tweet the birth of the murderer “Che” Guevara and put his complete speech. That would have been quite regrettable, but it could be understood, or even excused on the grounds of historical interest. But to put the speech mutilated, with only the parts that interest them, is of intolerable moral baseness.

What could be the reason for this omission on the part of UNESCO? Is it because they want to extol the figure of “Che” Guevara by acting as propagandists of communism? Or because they consider the executions as uninteresting trifles that can be despised?

UNESCO has shown not to have the slightest interest for the hundreds of people directly assassinated by “Che,” nor for the lives of thousands of mortal victims of the Cuban Revolution, nor for the millions who over the last six decades have suffered the terrible consequences of the Castro’s communist regime, not only in Cuba but also with its military and terrorist interventions abroad.

It is not that UNESCO does not show interest in the victims, it is that with this tweet it despises them. The Idiot of the Week award falls short, they don’t seem to be idiots, they seem to be evil. Those who posted this tweet are indeed despicable.

Other speeches that UNESCO could honor

We propose that to continue in this line opened with the monster “Che” Guevara, UNESCO extol the speeches of Adolf Hitler, Mao Zedong, Pol Pot, Joseph Stalin or Nicolae Ceauçescu, and also remember them for their birthdays. After all, it is easier to celebrate the birthdays of these murderers than to commemorate the deaths of their victims, who number in the millions. Too much work for UNESCO’s community manager.

Since UNESCO is supposedly dedicated to cultural values, we also propose that he tweets about other famous speeches of characters similar to “Che”, such as the aforementioned Emperor Palpatine’s or Saruman’s before tens of thousands of Uruk-hais before leaving for Helm’s Deep.

“A new power rises! Your victory is near! Tonight the land will be stained with the blood of Rohan. March to Helm’s Deep! Leave no trace of life! War! There will be no dawn for men,” said Saruman.

If UNESCO leaves only the “rising power” part and the “victory is at hand” part, it is a very beautiful and moving speech, worth remembering. In fact, Sauron’s lackeys were brought to tears when they heard it. It is a speech as memorable as “Che’s” speech at the UN, the speech that moved UNESCO.
