Robert Crimo, the man arrested for Monday’s shooting in Highland Park (Illinois) that killed six people and wounded 30 others, had been planning the attack for weeks and was disguised as a woman, authorities said Tuesday.
Lake County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli said Crimo is 21 years old, not 22 as reported the day before, and that his motives are unknown at this time.
Authorities have interviewed witnesses and survivors of the shooting and reviewed cell phone video recordings.
After the shooting, Crimo left the rooftop from which he fired, threw down his rifle, and mingled with the crowd as if he were just another parade attendee. Then, he headed to his mother’s home, who lived nearby.
There he took his mother’s vehicle to escape but was intercepted while trying to flee. Inside that car, police found a second rifle.
