Joe Biden said in a speech that suffering the highest inflation in history shows “some progress.”
In a speech from Los Angeles following a new Consumer Price Index report revealing that inflation rose 8.2 percent in September compared to the same period last year, Biden was upbeat and said it shows progress.
“Today’s reports, though, show some progress. Overall, inflation was 2% over the last three months. That’s down from 11% over the prior three months. That’s progress,” said Biden who added that the cost of living was reduced by the decline in the cost of gasoline.
Biden, who during his administration has faced inflation and employment crises, went so far as to state that if the Republicans regain power in Congress “inflation will get worse.”
“If Republicans win, inflation is going to get worse. It’s that simple,” he said.
Twitter users criticized Biden for ignoring the impact of inflation rates on Americans’ quality of life and attempting to blame Republicans.
“He has no idea what’s happening with inflation today. They just hand him something to say and he says it,” tweeted The Spectator contributing editor Stephen Miller.
“What planet is this guy on? Good lord is he a mess. Just lives in fantasyland and think we all do too,” said radio host Paul Zeise.
This is not the first time Biden has made claims that are far from reality. In August, he claimed that inflation was at “zero percent” in July despite the fact that it had actually increased by 8.5 percent compared to July of last year. Biden had also claimed in December 2021 that inflation had peaked when the inflation rate only reached 6.8 percent.
