Iranian journalist and activist Masih Alinejad, who has spoken out against Iran’s mandatory hijab law, sent a message to feminists around the world and asked for their support in defending women who are being repressed by her country’s regime.

Specifically, Alinejad, referred in her message to Congresswomen Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ilhan Omar, whom she invited to accompany her to the Islamic Republic of Iran’s interest section in Washington, D.C.

In the video, shared on social media, it is seen that the journalist is not allowed to register a complaint before the section because her head is not covered with a hijab, and she does not possess an Iranian passport.

“I invite AOC and Ilhan Omar to join me to go to Islamic Republic of Iran interest section in DC to show our solidarity with Mahsa Amini who got killed by police and support Iranian women who are facing guns and bullets,” Alinejad wrote on Twitter.

The Iranian regime against its citizens

The activist’s message comes at a time when the veil has become the symbol of the protests that have been shaking Iran for days following the death of Mahsa Amini.

Amini was arrested on Tuesday 13 by the so-called Morality Police in Tehran on the grounds that she was wearing the veil incorrectly and taken to a police station where she suffered a heart attack and went into a coma.

Mahsa died three days later in a hospital, in a death described by the police as “unfortunate” and which the authorities have attributed to health problems, a theory rejected by her family.
