Is China Hiding the Origin of COVID-19?

In early December 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) agreed with Beijing that it would be the first visit by a scientific team to Wuhan, the epicenter of the pandemic, to investigate the origin of COVID-19.

However, the international press reported that when the commission made up of two scientists was already flying to the city of Wuhan, they were notified that “they did not have the necessary permits to enter the country.”

China’s decision comes despite the fact that the WHO, headed by Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, has worked closely with the Communist Party of China (CCP) in managing the pandemic worldwide.

Beijing’s refusal prompted the WHO director to make a statement to the press in which he said he was “very disappointed with this news.” I have been in contact with senior Chinese officials and have once again made it clear that the mission is a priority for the WHO and the international team.

The news comes amidst the growing number of cases of patients with COVID-19 that are hitting China after the Asian giant claimed to have controlled the pandemic, according to questioned reports from the CCP.

The lack of knowledge about the origin of COVID-19 and the late information from China and the WHO has cost the lives of more than one and a half million people around the world.

Transparent information on the origin of the coronavirus for a timely response to new viruses

Unlike the current coronavirus, other viruses have been able to be detected in time thanks to scientific information provided by the epicenter countries. China still doesn’t provide reports that reveal the origin of the virus and refuses to cooperate with international organizations.

CNN published a report in December 2020 showing the appearance of an unknown virus similar to Ebola in the Congo. According to specialists consulted by the media, “there is a possibility of the emergence of new viruses due to changes in ecosystems.”

The medical team that discovered the deadly Ebola in 1976 is now investigating the emergence of the so-called “X virus,” according to CNN. Within the research, the participation of the international community in finding the origin of the virus stands out.

The origin of Ebola was fundamental in combating it in a timely manner, since the identification of Ebola was “based on a chain that connected the most remote parts of the tropical forests of Africa with high-tech laboratories in the West,” according to the CNN report.

Since the international community has signed agreements on epidemic care and prevention with the WHO, it is essential that the organization be accountable to countries on the epidemic situation in the world, above political interests, this after the media reported an agreement between the WHO and the Government of Italy on the figures of the coronavirus.

The WHO has been complacent with the CCP and has followed the instructions given to it since Beijing for the management of the pandemic. For example, it took WHO two weeks to accept that COVID-19 is human-to-human transmitted; it has also prevented Taiwan’s participation in the international response to contain the pandemic, both along the lines of the Chinese regime.

The case of Taiwan shows that the WHO protects the political interests of its allies above scientific rigor and to the detriment of the population. In 2003, Taiwan acted boldly against SARS and is one of the countries that has best managed the coronavirus pandemic without resorting to restricting freedom or the local economy.

The Trump Administration’s actions with respect to the WHO were timely, as the United States has been the only country to call for transparency in pandemic reporting.

One year after the virus was detected in Wuhan, Chinese authorities are still not accountable for their handling of the release of relevant figures on the origin of the virus.

WHO’s silence before China’s false information

The declarations of the WHO director to the media in response to the decision of Beijing to prevent the entrance of the scientific commission, is the first reaction that the organization has expressed against the Beijing regime.

Since the discovery of the virus, the CCP has provided late and misleading information about the virus and its origin, thus preventing a timely response from the international community to the pandemic without being condemned for the act.

It has taken months for China to accept a scientific visit to the city of Wuhan. The complete mission that the WHO intends to send to China to investigate the origin of the virus consists of a team made up of scientists from the United States, Japan, Russia, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Denmark, Australia, Vietnam, Germany and Qatar.

The silence and complicity of the WHO goes beyond the consequences and political debate. Relevant information has resulted in a timely response by the international community to viruses such as Ebola, yellow fever, and HIV.

This is not the first time that China has prevented international agencies from informing the international community about the emergence and origin of new viruses. In 2003, the CCP avoided informing Taiwan about the emergence of SARS, a type of influenza that that government successfully combated, but in isolation from international assistance.

China quarantines 11 million people

Reports from the CCP during the year 2020 showed that China had successfully overcome the pandemic. With parties and propaganda Beijing wants to show the world that Chinese citizens already enjoyed a normal life while the media reports that the economy grew by almost 5% during 2020.

In contrast, the media have reported that on January 6, 2021, the Chinese regime took the decision to close the city of Shijiazhuang, the capital of Hebei Province near Beijing. In the city of Shijiazhuang “117 infections have been recorded, of which 63 were announced on the day of closure.

Reuters reported that authorities in Guangdong province “reported the appearance of a patient infected with a more transmissible variant of the coronavirus discovered in South Africa.”

Beijing’s veto of the WHO commission that would study the origin of the virus comes on the eve of the lunar new year celebration which is considered the largest human migration of each year and is a risk for new infections of the COVID-19 in China.
