The Associated Press reported that J.D. Vance won the Ohio Republican primary for Senate. Vance had the endorsement of former President Donald Trump during his career within the Republican Party.

Vance touted his links to former President Trump in a tough and close GOP primary.

“I think J.D. is the most likely to take out the weak, but dangerous, Democrat opponent,” Trump said at the time of announcing his support for Vance, who defeated Josh Mandel, a former state treasurer who claimed to share ideas with Donald Trump and who, according to various media, led the voting intention until a few days ago.

After Trump’s support, various media, such as CNN, assured that the primaries would be a way to measure the influence of the former president within the party. According to the network’s analysts Eric Bradner and Jeff Zeleny, JD Vance’s bid for the Republican Senate nomination has become the test of former President Donald Trump’s influence.

Vance is a venture capitalist and author of the best-selling book Hillbilly Elegy. He will now face Democrat Tim Ryan in the November midterm elections.
