Two months after taking office as President of the United States, Joe Biden has shown that his foreign policy towards the country’s main enemies is a failing approach. His administration has made it clear that it wants to appease countries like Russia, China or Iran. Yet, foreign policy experts argue that these regimes have already declared “war” against the United States.
“It doesn’t matter that the United States does not want to have a conflict with Iran, Russia, China or Venezuela; they already have one with us,” said Joseph Humire, a global security expert specialized in transnational threats in the Western Hemisphere.
In an exclusive interview with El American, Humire pointed out that a submissive attitude on the part of Biden before the main enemies of the United States “will never work.”
In relation to the Iran nuclear deal, the specialist pointed out that it is practically a fact that the Democratic administration will resume negotiations with the Persian regime, and encouraged people to question the model that’s being used.
“It’s not that having an agreement with Iran is wrong because no one wants Iran to have a nuclear weapon, the agreement will not work if it is based on false expectations.”

“In the Obama agreement, Iran imposed certain clauses where the only verification that was done to some sites had to be with their own approval. It’s like a policeman saying he’s going to inspect your house and you tell him to let you know beforehand, and also demand that he can’t enter the bathroom,” Humire explained.
“Biden should demand total inspection and total transparency. Iran cannot choose where, when and how inspectors will enter to review how its nuclear program is progressing,” the specialist said.
“A submissive attitude of surrendering or being fragile never works with these regimes. You must always be strong, tough, smart and aware of what’s going on,” Humire said of the attitude he believes Biden should assume in the face of enemy powers.
“I can say a thousand times that going into the nuclear deal is a mistake, but we already know it’s practically a done deal, they can say a thousand times they won’t lift the sanctions, but we know at the end of the day they are going to do it. So I think there is only room to debate how they do it. I don’t think we are going to convince the Biden administration to do the opposite,” he stated.
“We are in the era of struggle between great powers”
Humire added that China and Iran maintain a hybrid strategy to advance their interests of power and control.
“China is not only doing it asymmetrically with communications and intelligence and support for non-state networks; it is also advancing in very technological aspects. If we have concerns about Iran having a nuclear bomb, China already has it. China is on another level,” he asserted.
“These regimes despite being very different in their culture, are aligning themselves with that old saying that “the enemy of my enemy is my friend” (…) One actor by itself is problematic, but all three at the same time is worrisome,” he added.
COVID vaccine as an instrument of control
Humire referred to a report published by the Center for a Free and Secure Society which points out that powers like Russia or China are working together to control the West.
“Now that we are in the vaccine fight, we are seeing how countries like the United States are more focused on vaccinating their people. China and Russia are more focused on selling their vaccines worldwide,” he recalled.
“In Latin America we have seen that the Russians and the Chinese are working together. Russia seems to be selling its vaccine to strategic allied countries such as Argentina, and China is looking to sell its vaccine to countries that have been more aligned to the United States, such as Peru and Chile,” he explained.
In relation to Venezuela, Humire reiterated that the South American country continues to be a real threat to the United States, and pointed out the importance of the Biden administration marking a strategy for Latin America.
“Nicolás Maduro does not work alone. In Latin America alone Maduro has the option Mexico, Bolivia, Nicaragua, now maybe Ecuador, and as long as Maduro has those alliances, how is he going to be isolated?”, he questioned.
“Biden shouldn’t make rash decisions just because he wants to be different from former President Donald Trump. He should sit down with his team and develop a strategy.”

“What I say to Biden is that he must have a policy for Latin America before addressing the issue of Venezuela,” he concluded. “He can’t start lifting sanctions on the situation in Venezuela if he doesn’t understand what he is going to do in the whole region.”
