Vice President Kamala Harris, who has not yet traveled to the southern border to see firsthand the severity of the immigration crisis plaguing the country, began a trip to Guatemala and Mexico to undertake joint measures to discourage illegal immigration into the United States.
Harris’ visit is part of Biden’s strategy to put a definitive end to irregular immigration in the United States, especially from the so-called “Northern Triangle” of Central America made up of El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras.
“I want to emphasize that the goal of our work is to help Guatemalans find hope at home, at the same time I want to be clear to folks in this region who are thinking about making the dangerous trek to the United States-Mexico border — do not come, do not come,” said Kamala Harris in Guatemala.
She urged people to discourage their friends, neighbors, and family members from attempting to cross the border illegally.
Harris also said that the United States is interested in investing in Guatemala and helping to fight corruption in that country. After meeting with the Guatemalan president, the vice president will leave the Central American country for her second destination in Mexico, where she will meet with President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

Biden’s reversal of Trump’s immigration policies caused an avalanche of illegal migrants at the U.S. border. The crisis is such that the Democratic leader was forced to appoint Harris as the ‘border czar.’
According to a Fox News poll, 46% of Americans believe the situation at the border is “worse” under Biden than under Trump. Only 15% said border security is “better” under Biden and 33% said it is “the same.”
