WATCH: Kevin McCarthy Slams CNN Reporter About January 6 Tapes

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) blasted a CNN reporter at a brief press conference in which he answered concerns about sharing footage from the January 6 riots at the United States Capitol to Fox News anchor Tucker Carlson.

As McCarthy gave over 41,000 hours of film exclusively to Fox last month, Mitch McConnell and other Republicans reacted angrily to Carlson’s characterization of the Capitol incident. Carlson started airing the footage on Fox last Monday. That day, he described the Capitol disturbance as “mostly peaceful chaos.”

Watch:

McCarthy told reporters on Tuesday that he had no regrets about handing Carlson the tape.

The reporter Manu Raju stated and asked: “Because of the footage that you gave Tucker Carlson, last night he went on and said this was a mostly peaceful chaos as he said, he downplayed Brian Sicknick’s death, said it was not related to January 6, that this was not an insurrection,” “Do you regret giving him those [tapes] so he could whitewash the events of that day?”

McCarthy responded:

“I said at the very beginning: transparency. What I wanted to produce for everyone was exactly what I said so people could look at it and see what went on that day.”
