In this eighth installment of Las Movies, which analyzes the world of culture and entertainment: movies, series, and video games, Ignacio M. García Medina talks about Death Wish and its defense of the Second Amendment.

Las Movies: Death Wish is a defense of the Second Amendment

Ignacio explains that the plot of the film unfolds in a Chicago with rising crime. The protagonist, in spite of the violence rampant in his city, maintained a pro-green attitude. Everything changes when his daughter and wife become victims of crime. At that moment he realizes the benefits of self-defense.

“It talks about the difference between national security and private security. Also, it’s a defense of the Second Amendment. It’s about a pacifist progressist doctor who is against guns, death penalty and life imprisonment.”

That way, the protagonist — played by Bruce Willis — begins to take justice into his own hands and the city’s crime rates begin to drop.

Death Wish by Eli Roth

For Ignacio, the production is a way to demonstrate how gun controls only affect decent people who use them to protect themselves, as criminals will find a way to access them.

“It shows you that no matter how much guns are banned, the bad guys are still going to have them. What these bans do is make it harder for good people to have access to guns. In this case, Bruce Willis, who seeks them to defend himself,” he said.

Finally, he referred to the version of producer Eli Roth. He also explained that all of Roth’s films dismantle the progressist ideology and demonstrate his closeness to conservative ideas. “You can tell that Roth is not of this Hollywood, leftist and absurdly progressist. He’s quite the opposite. He is a guy to keep in mind and to follow,” Ignacio points out.
