Lauren Boebert gets significant committee assignment after negotiating McCarthy’s bid for speaker

Rep. Lauren Boebert was one of over two dozen staunch Republicans who steadfastly refused to support Kevin McCarthy for speaker for days. However, it now seems that her support paid off in the shape of a desirable House committee assignment.

Tuesday night, Newsweek revealed that the McCarthy-led House Steering Committee had given the Colorado Republican a place on the coveted and powerful House Oversight Committee.

The news source stated that the appointment gives the outspoken Colorado Republican outsized influence on looming inquiries into three-letter agencies like the CIA and FBI that McCarthy had hinted at in the run-up to Republicans taking the majority this past November.

The selection, which Boebert revealed in a tweet, comes after her loud criticisms of McCarthy in the press and on the House floor in the days before the start of the 118th Congress. She cast her vote for someone other than McCarthy more than a dozen times before finally voting for the newly elected Speaker of the House.

Also, a statement from Boebert’s office following her nomination stated:

As an advocate for transparency and reform, I will pursue the truth, conduct effective oversight, and fight to root out waste, fraud, and abuse throughout the federal government.

I look forward to working with Chairman James Comer and supporting his mission to eliminate mismanagement in the federal government by investigating the border and fentanyl crises, COVID relief fraud, government collusion with big tech to censor Americans, the botched Afghanistan withdrawal, the energy crisis, COVID origins, and the Biden family’s shady business schemes.

“…Under Chairman James Comer’s leadership, the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability will get back to its original purpose of advocating for taxpayers by investigating reports of waste, fraud, abuse, and mismanagement in the federal government.”

The statement also says that the committee will investigate the border and fentanyl crises, the weaponization of federal agencies against the American people, the “COVID fraud”, the botched Afghanistan surrender, the energy crisis, the COVID origins and the Biden Family’s “pay-to-play” business schemes.
