“Maduro, take your filthy and bloody hands off the people of Colombia.” This is what the president of Ecuador, Lenín Moreno, said on Wednesday. He made the statements before participating in the Democracy and Liberty Forum taking place in Miami.

Likewise, Moreno said he informed his Colombian counterpart, Iván Duque, of having detected interference by Nicolás Maduro in the protests taking place in Colombia.

“I had already told Duque that we had detected the gross interference of the dictator Maduro in what is happening right now in Colombia,” he said.

A tax reform proposed by the government of Iván Duque generated protests in Colombia. After several days of protests and violence, Duque withdrew the reform. The Minister of Finance, Alberto Carrasquilla, resigned and the Government called for a dialogue. However, the strike committee maintains the protests and has not yet sat down for a dialogue.

So far, the Ombudsman’s Office states that 19 protesters have been killed in the middle of the demonstrations and the Attorney General’s Office has reported that both the FARC and the ELN have infiltrated the marches.
