The events of January 6th shocked Washington and the entire world, and the consequences of the assault on the Capitol remain to be seen. As for the latter, Democratic leaders are immediately seeking to punish Republican leaders for their alleged responsibility.

For example, Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House of Representatives, asked Vice President Mike Pence and the Cabinet to remove President Trump from office through the 25th Amendment. But not only that happened; on Twitter, there was also an exchange between Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX).

Ocasio-Cortez quoted Cruz’s statement in which he condemned the embarrassing violence that had taken place on Capitol Hill.

“Sen. Cruz, you must accept responsibility for how your craven, self-serving actions contributed to the deaths of four people yesterday. And how you fundraised off this riot.” AOC said. “Both you and Senator Hawley must resign. If you do not, the Senate should move for your expulsion.”

Ted Cruz had released a statement in which he pointed out that “the attack on the Capitol was a despicable act of terrorism and a shocking assault on our democratic system.” At the same time, he appealed for unity to “leave behind this anger and division.”

“We must, and I am sure we will, have a peaceful and orderly transition of power,” he wrote.

Meanwhile, Ocasio-Cortez reproached him for supporting the efforts of 11 senators to challenge Joe Biden’s victory from Congress, a position that has been criticized by Democrats and Republicans, including figures such as Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY).

Ted Cruz’s response

Cruz rejected AOC’s request, calling her a “liar” and warned that he would fight from Congress against her and her “socialist friends.”

“AOC you are a liar,” he began. “Leading a debate in the Senate on ensuring election integrity is doing our jobs, and it’s in no way responsible for the despicable terrorists who attacked the Capitol yesterday. And sorry, I ain’t going anywhere.”

“When you and your socialist buddies try to raise taxes en masse, when you try to pass the new green deal and destroy millions of jobs, when you push for amnesty, when you try to fill the Supreme Court with activists to undermine our constitutional rights, I will fight that at every step and be with the people,” wrote the Texas state senator.

Ocasio-Cortez not only went after Ted Cruz on Twitter but also against Donald Trump, demanding that Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi invokes 25th Amendment in order to remove him from office. She added that if Trump’s cabinet did not act to remove him “for not being fit for office,” Congress should step in and remove him as soon as possible.
