In the latest issue of El American’s Lo Que Importa podcast, our co-editor-in-chief, Vanessa Vallejo, sat down with journalist Orlando Gutiérrez-Boronat, secretary general of the Cuban Democratic Directorate, to talk about the attempt to buy 18 Hispanic radio stations, including the iconic Radio Mambi, known for its anti-communist stance. The group is led by Democrat businessmen and financed by mogul George Soros.

Gutiérrez-Boronat expressed concern about both the manner in which the purchase and sale of the Hispanic stations became known and the clear woke bias of those who intend to acquire them.

“We are concerned about the impact that this will have on the fact that these radio stations have served for decades as a means of communication about the truth in Cuba: the repression, the persecution, the harassment of people who think differently,” Gutiérrez-Boronat said.

Important broadcasters for the Cuban community

The Cuban-born journalist insisted that the Cuban community does not want the purchase of these important Hispanic media outlets to translate into condescension towards the Castro dictatorship or to silence the reality that the Cuban people are going through.

According to Gutiérrez-Boronat, the journalists who have been working for these stations for a long time are people “of integrity, of principles” who have demonstrated their commitment to the Cuban community.

He further explained that within the Cuban community there is a plurality of thought and ideological differences, but its members are united by their love for freedom and truth, as well as their belief in individual freedom, in the family, and in God.
