Senator Susan Collins of Maine joins the list of senators facing possible censure in their states for her vote to convict former President Donald Trump in the impeachment trial he faced.
The Republican county chairs will meet next Monday, according to state GOP Executive Director Jason Savage, News Center Maine reported.
Collins was one of seven Republicans who joined Democrats during the impeachment.
As News Max reads, Maine GOP Chairwoman Demi Kouzounas sent an email to members Saturday saying that “many of you are upset after what happened today, as are we” and “to be prepared for an emergency state committee meeting in the near future” to discuss Collins’ vote.
“My vote in this impeachment stems from my own duty to uphold the Constitution of the United States,” Collins said from the Senate floor defending his vote. “President Trump’s abuse of power and betrayal of his oath meet the constitutional standard for felonies and misdemeanors.”
Since the weekend several states have censured their representatives. Senator Bill Cassidy of Louisiana, Senator Pat Toomey, Pennsylvania, and Richard Burr of North Carolina have already been reprimanded.
Utah Republicans had used social media to circulate a petition to censure Senator Mitt Romney as a result of his vote.
