“My office is ready to help the leaders of the Black Lives Matter (BLM) organization to emigrate to Cuba”, these were the words of the Republican senator for the state of Florida, Marco Rubio, alluding to the statement published by the organization on Instagram in which he demanded the United States to “immediately lift the economic embargo” against Cuba.

BLM is facing strong criticism on social networks after the statement in which it assures that the embargo has “the explicit intention of destabilizing” the island and “undermining the right of Cubans to choose their own government”.

In this sense, Rubio wrote in another tweet: “The extortionist ring known as the Black Lives Matter organization took a break today from shaking down corporations for millions & buying themselves mansions to share their support for the Communist regime in Cuba”.

On Wednesday, the Republican said that Joe Biden’s administration “has been weak” in making decisions regarding the events in Cuba and urged the president to convene the United Nations (UN), the Organization of American States (OAS) and the international community to condemn what the Cuban regime is doing to its citizens after three days since Cubans rose up against the dictatorship of Miguel Díaz-Canel.

“What needs to happen here is a forceful response, this needs to be a bipartisan issue, this doesn’t have to be a Democratic or Republican issue. President Biden must take this seriously and that is what I have clearly asked him, we must all come together and act on it,” the senator said.

Thousands of Cubans took to the streets last July 11 to protest against the dictatorship shouting “freedom!” in an unprecedented day that has resulted in hundreds of people arrested and disappeared in clashes after Diaz-Canel alerted his supporters to go out and confront the demonstrators.
