Republican congresswoman of Cuban origin, María Elvira Salazar criticized the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) for celebrating the figure of Ernesto “Che” Guevara on the day of his birth.
“Instead of honoring the victims of his ruthless reign in Cuba, UNESCO has decided to honor their executioner,” Salazar wrote on his Twitter feed. She further added that UNESCO “is celebrating the memory of a serial murderer” and labeled the international body’s decision as an insult to “Che’s” victims.

In a tribute to Ernesto “Che” Guevara’s birthday, the United Nations agency dedicated a tweet to the Argentine guerrilla fighter. It is a video with part of a speech of “Che” at the opening of the UN General Assembly in 1964.
