Mark Ruffalo Ridiculed after Resounding Victory of ‘Rejection’ in Chile

Mark Ruffalo queda en ridículo tras contundente victoria del "rechazo" en Chile

IT’S NO secret to anyone that movie star Mark Ruffalo has long used his fame and soapbox to advocate for progressive and socialist causes, supposedly defending and promoting “social justice” and “minority rights.”

The man who embodies Marvel’s famed Hulk character has a clear track record that exposes his political and ideological beliefs: opposition to the free market, attacks on the capitalist system, appearances as a feminist ally in pro-abortion marches, winks at the Cuban dictatorship through the New York Times, public calls for higher taxes and a tacit endorsement of socialist Bernie Sanders in the 2016 presidential campaign.

However, his most recent political fight was in South America, specifically, Chile, where Ruffalo voiced his support for a proposed controversial “new constitution” —full of loopholes and violating private property— ultimately widely rejected by Chileans last Sunday, September 4.

Chilean indigenous people expose Ruffalo at the polls

According to the American actor, this rejected Magna Carta would have given Chile’s indigenous people greater power and autonomy over their allegedly violated territories.

“Chile is on the verge of making history for Indigenous Rights. If the new constitution passes, over 2 million Indigenous Chileans ‘would be able to govern their own territories.’ A huge act of reparations paid,” Ruffalo wrote Twitter on September 3rd.

Indeed, the actor did not even read the most controversial articles of this failed Magna Carta and all the criticisms it received from specialists, which explains the resounding rejection of this proposal at the polls. If Ruffalo had been a little more critical of the text, and had been better informed about it, perhaps he could have anticipated the greatest failure of the progressives in Chile: the great majority of the Chilean indigenous people rejected the “new Constitution” proposed by the radical left.

Although it may not seem to make sense to Ruffalo, this constituent proposal gained its greatest opposition among the indigenous population, who found this text radical, out of place, and dangerous for Chile.

In the video below, for example, you can see an indigenous Chilean woman speaking out against the failed Constitution that Ruffalo defended. The woman explicitly asks all of Chile to vote against the proposal in order to “save” her country.

It is not a unique or isolated case since the ‘rejection’ clearly prevailed in the regions with an indigenous majority. In Alto Biobío, where 84.2% of the population is indigenous, the rejection obtained 70.75 % of the votes. In Saavedra, where there is a 79.6% indigenous population, the rejection received 68.05%. In Cholchol, the rejection won with 73.82%, and 75.3% of the population is indigenous.

Infobae reported similar scenarios in Tirúa, Galvarino, Camiña, Colchane, San Juan de la Costa, or General Lagos, where rejection prevailed widely.

Although many indigenous people are evidently in favor of a historical claim to what they consider their lands, they are categorically opposed to the concept of “plurinationality” imposed by the new constitutional text proposed by Chile’s radical left. The main indigenous organizations in the country have welcomed the rejection and advocated finding solutions to consolidate the national union, which will not be achieved by granting unfair privileges. A situation that Ruffalo has completely ignored since the rejection clearly won last Sunday.

The rejection victory in Chile not only embarrasses American social justice warriors, such as Mark Ruffalo, but also the hegemonic media, such as The New York Times, which published two articles highlighting the proposed “New Constitution” in Chile for supposedly defending indigenous rights, but ignoring the widespread unpopularity of the text among virtually all demographic groups, especially the indigenous population.
